RPG Maker MV: Designing A Message Window
After I finished my RPG Maker Basics tutorial series I was spurred-on to continue this into making a very tiny, but fully functional game, complete with a story.
The cool part is I already have the story. I’m taking a book idea I’ve had for years now and using it. That leaves me to continue learning how to use RPG Maker MV.
To that end, I started randomly working on parts of my game. I’ve been tinkering with redesigning the message-windows(the windows that pop-up when you talk to NPCs).
This is my first prototype design. I’m not entirely happy with it now that I see it in action. It feels/looks too “sketchy” and like a comic-book for my liking. I borrowed heavily the outline from an existing AAA game as well and want it to be more fully my own design and vision, so I’ll be redesigning it from the ground up.
I’m happy with the fact I got it to work. I managed to get it resized, repositioned and the NPCs name almost how I want. I still need to shift the NPCs name a bit to the right – it’s actually going to overlap the top-border of the window. And the name will be in bold-white with a black outline. The animated “next” cursor also needs completely redesigned and I’ll be shifting it to the bottom-right.
The whole thing may get redesigned a lot, but the important bits of how to get it to work are done, sans the NPC’s name.

After I finish work on this message-window structure, I may move to menu-screens, while continuing to develop the exact look/feel(graphically) that I want everything to have. I’d like all the menus and windows to look good together and develop and solid aesthetic.
