Item Hunting & More in “Zelda: ALTTP” Episode 2!

The second episode here of my retro playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is a good bit shorter than the first one because it’s essentially a bridge between dungeons. Last time, we left off with having completed the Eastern Palace dungeon and receiving the Pegasus Boots from Sahasrahla, who then told us to seek out an important item near Lake Hylia. With that instruction in mind, our quest continues.

I end up visiting the lake cave and retrieving the Ice Rod, finding a couple hidden spots with our new dash powers and getting a heart piece in the process, tracking down the Magic Mushroom in the Lost Woods to exchange with the witch for some magic powder, knocking the Book of Mudora off a shelf in the local library, and then heading southwest to the Desert of Mystery. The desert contains a few new enemies and a couple secrets, but it’s also the home to our next major dungeon: the Desert Palace. Here, we should be able to retrieve the Pendant of Power.

That, though, will have to wait until next time! I was certainly tempted to press on and tackle the next dungeon, but felt like it made a bit more sense to hold off until the next episode of the series. :)

One thing I should point out is that you should pay attention to the scene where Link “makes a wish” to open the Desert Palace. There’s actually a bit of religious symbolism here that was removed from later releases of the title.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode! There’s more awesome gaming fun coming soon!
